February 11, 2004 - Karori Sanctuary

Spent the first half of the day in Karori Sanctuary watching birds and more or less hiking around. Checked out of the hotel and are now in a B&B in korokoro, so we're out of Wellington (barely) and into Hutt City. Might spend the rest of the time planning. Among the birds we saw were the Kaka, actally a number of them in one spot, which is parrot-like, a number of Black Shags, a Brown Teal, a Tui, and a Tomtit before we left. We also saw some Wetas, in a little "Weta Hotel" they have for them to sleep in during the day.

I keep forgetting to complain about the toilets. None of them flush like American ones, they all flush with a lot of pressure. I complain because there's no observing the water swirl the "other" way from above the equator. Bit bothersome. I have five rolls of film developed now, Barad Dur didn't come out so hot, but that wasn't surprising. Anyway, the Wetas were neat, and had to be seen given Weta Workshop and Weta Digital, of course. They're certainly scary looking things.
